Organizing people into teams

Create teams, nest them, assign a team admin, and place the people who are listed under Unassigned.

A team is a named group of people inside your organization — Commercial Litigation, Trusts and Estates, Operations. A loop shared with a team reaches everyone on it, without being shared loop by loop.

Teams are in Settings > Users, one directory grouped by team.

Reading the directory

Teams are listed in order, with their members under them and nested teams indented beneath their parent. Select a team's row to fold it away; Collapse all at the top right folds everything at once.

Unassigned is pinned at the top and holds everyone who is not yet on a team. It carries the note can't receive loops shared with a team: a person in Unassigned receives the loops shared with them by name. The group disappears once it is empty.

Search by name or email, or filter the list to No team to see who still needs placing.

Creating a team

  1. Select New team at the top right.

  2. Enter a name for the team.

  3. Optionally choose a team to nest under.

  4. Select Create team.

To create a team from people already in the directory, select those people, then choose Create new team from the Add to team menu in the bar at the bottom. The team is created with them already on it.

Nesting is set when the team is created. To place a team under a different parent, create it in the right place and move the people across.

Teams can nest five levels deep.

Nested teams

Sharing to a parent team reaches every team beneath it. A loop shared with Litigation reaches Commercial Litigation and Employment nested inside it, without being shared three times.

Authority follows the same path: a team admin of Litigation can manage the teams nested under it.

Adding and removing members

Select Edit team on the team's row to open it, then use + Add next to Members. Search your organization, select the people to add, and add them in a single step.

Two other routes do the same thing:

  • Select several people in the directory and use Add to team in the bar at the bottom.

  • Open one person and use Add to a team in their panel, which also shows every team they are already on.

To take someone off a team, use the remove control on their row in the team, or on the team's entry in their own panel. They stay in the organization and lose whatever that team gave them access to.

Add someone to a team once they have accepted their invitation.

Assigning a team admin

In the team, set a person's role from Member to Team admin. They can then add and remove the people on that team and on any team nested under it.

Use it to let a practice group manage its own membership without making its lead an administrator of the whole firm.

The directory names the team admin on the team's row.

Renaming, subteams, and deleting

All three are in the team's panel:

  • Rename — edit the Team name field and press Enter or select elsewhere on the page. The change saves automatically.

  • Create subteam — makes a new team nested under this one.

  • Delete team — Caddi asks you to confirm and states that members keep their accounts and stay in the organization. They lose what the team gave them, and return to Unassigned if it was their only team.

Before you create your first team

The directory shows a banner when no teams exist, and everyone is listed under Unassigned. Share loops person by person until you create a team.
