GitLab Setup

Connecting your GitLab account to Caddi

GitLab is a Caddi-managed connector. Unlike the GitHub integration, there is no OAuth application to register and nothing for an administrator to configure — each person signs in to GitLab and approves Caddi.

This connector signs in to GitLab.com. For other GitLab deployments, contact your Caddi account team.

Before you start

You'll need:

  • A GitLab.com account with access to the projects and groups the work involves

  • A Caddi account

Step 1: Connect your account

  1. In Caddi, open Settings, then Integrations, and go to the My Connections tab.

  2. Find GitLab and click Connect +.

  3. Sign in to GitLab.

  4. Review the access GitLab lists on the authorization screen and click Authorize.

  5. You'll be returned to Caddi with the connection active.

How the connection behaves

  • Caddi inherits your GitLab permissions, exactly. The connection acts as you, so it can reach the projects you can reach and nothing more. If a loop needs a project you have no access to, the fix is a GitLab membership change, not a Caddi one.

  • Scopes are requested at sign-in, not configured here. GitLab shows the full list on the authorization screen — read it there before approving.

  • Access tokens last two hours and are renewed in the background. GitLab rotates the refresh token on every use, so the connection continues to renew without action from you.

  • Each person connects their own GitLab account.

Troubleshooting

A project or group is invisible to Caddi

Your GitLab account cannot see it either. Check your membership and role on the project in GitLab.

Pushes, comments or issue creation fail

Either the scopes you approved at sign-in were narrower than Caddi requested, or your GitLab role on that project is read-only. Reconnect to re-approve, and confirm your project role.

The connection broke after a long idle period

GitLab rotates refresh tokens on every use and invalidates the previous one, so an interrupted renewal can leave the connection unusable. Disconnect and connect again.
